EDUCATION IN INDIA

India is a South Asian country with almost one and a half billion people (1.417 billion people), and is the first most populous in the world.

Modern India has one of the largest education systems in the world. There are about 15 million schools in the country, where 260 million children study and 87 million teachers work. According to 2022 data, 26.3% of school graduates enter universities. The Indian government wants this figure to reach 50% by 2035. There will be a place for children who want to get higher education where to study: over the past five years, the number of university-level institutions has grown by about 37%, and the number of colleges by 9%.

Among foreigners, Indian universities enjoy a long and well-deserved popularity. Traditionally, many students come to study in India from neighboring countries of South Asia, as well as from African countries. Students from all over the world traditionally go to study in India in a number of areas in which India occupies a leading position in the world (primarily in the fields of medicine and information technology).

Advantages OF STUDYING IN INDIA

FINANCIAL AFFORDABILITY

Tuition at most universities ranges from 700$ to 3,000$ per year, which is much cheaper compared to universities in Europe and the USA. Foreign students also have the opportunity to receive a hostel and a scholarship.

REPUTATION OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

100 Indian universities are included in the QS World University Rankings. The leading positions are occupied by scientific, technical and engineering universities. Diplomas from Indian universities are state accredited and are recognized by educational institutions and companies in the country and around the world.

ENGLISH PROGRAMS

English is the official language in India. It is used not only for teaching, but also in everyday life. This eliminates the need to learn the local language and simplifies social adaptation. You will need a certificate of at least B2 for undergraduate and C1 for postgraduate programs.

CONVENIENCE OF THE ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Applicants can apply to several universities at once using the DASA centralized application system.

Disadvantages OF STUDYING IN INDIA

WORK DURING STUDY

A student visa does not allow foreign students to work officially (with the exception of internships, which are part of the curriculum and are not paid). This can become a serious limitation for those who planned to provide for themselves.

SPECIFIC LEARNING STYLE

In educational institutions in India, professors usually use the so-called "mechanical learning" (rote learning). This is a method of memorizing facts and terms verbatim, through repeated repetition. This approach can be confusing for students who are used to acquiring knowledge in other ways, such as through seminar discussions.

CROWDED AUDIENCES

Despite the fact that the Indian system of higher education is the second largest in the world in terms of the number of universities after China, the classrooms at some universities are overcrowded. This negatively affects the effectiveness of the educational process, so it is recommended to carefully choose a university before entering.

ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Training is often built on the principle of competition. With this format, the goal is not to improve one's own results, but to get better grades than other students. This creates a not very comfortable psychological environment.

COST OF EDUCATION

The cost of education in India is considered one of the lowest in the world.

Education in India for foreigners is paid. The cost of education directly depends on the type of educational institution (public or private). At public universities, the cost of studying is from 700$ per year and above. More prestigious public universities can charge up to 6,000$ per academic year. In private universities, the cost can reach up to 15,000$ per year or more.

Foreigners, as a rule, enter the institutes of technology, where on average the annual tuition fee for undergraduate studies costs an average of 3,000$ per year, for master's and doctoral studies - 4,000$ and 8,000$, respectively.

Work after school. Graduates can apply for a work visa for a period of 1 to 5 years.

LIVING CONDITIONS AND EXPENSES

According to a UNESCO survey, India is one of the most cost-effective countries for international students to study abroad. Compared to other countries, the cost of living here is extremely low.

Many prestigious universities in India provide their students with on-campus housing. For accommodation in a university hostel, a purely symbolic fee is charged. Also, the student has the opportunity to rent a room on their own or rent a serviced apartment.

EXAMPLE expanses

Renting an apartment in a big city like Mumbai or Delhi costs about 300$ a month. In small towns, a one-room apartment will cost about 90$ per month. Food, public transport, entertainment in India are cheap. On average, a student's monthly expenses are 150-160$ if he lives in a hostel. So 1850-2000$ per year would be enough to keep the student happy, safe and comfortable.
